Alaa's Character:

Moroccan Translator

The Moroccan translator helped the FBI with interrogating the Guantanamo detainee Mohamedou Ould Slahi.

Marseille

Marseille was the prisoner in Slahi’s next cell. They developed a blind friendship during their time, speaking French to each other across the fence.

“After my call-back with Kevin Macdonald and Nina Gold, I was offered to play two parts: both the FBI translator and the French cellmate from the other side of the fence. This was the most challenging shoot with languages, having to switch from French with a Marseille accent to Moroccan Arabic to American English all within the course of 2 weeks!”
